Legal Question in Family Law in California

guardianship and child support

To whom it may concern: I'm currently pregnant and still in college. While in school, I may have to give temporary guardianship to my mother for financial reasons. Is the father is obligated to pay child support? Thank you.

Re: guardianship & c/s

Yes. So are you. Also, he might seek custody since, as the father, he has rights far in excess of the grandmother. Then you could be ordered to pay him support.

Re: guardianship and child support

You can trnasfer temporary custody to anyone you wish

I would suggest however contacting an attorney to

draw up the papers for you so that when you are

done with school there are no legal problems when

you wish to reaquire custody of your child.

As far as the father. You need to contact your

local district attorney and tell them who the

father is and ask that the establish child support

for your child. Once they have established paternity

they will file the necessary papers to Establish

support and garnish the fathers wages.

I hope this will help you out. Good luck.
