Legal Question in Family Law in California

Guardianship & child Support

My husbands son lives with his ex inlaws, they are his legal guardian. His daughter lives with her mom, and we have regular visitation. We pay $611.00 per month to the mother for support and the same to the guardian for support. The mother is married, and has a good job. The question is, how do we go about getting the mother to help with support for the son. What are the legal issues? Why would only one parent be held responsible?

Re: Guardianship & child Support

I don't know how the support amounts you have to pay were set, and whether they already included the mother's income. If they're based on the Child Support Guidelines, they'd already include her income. If they're based on something else, who knows? You may wish to contact the Family Law Facilitator's Office (free) at (213) 974-5004 to find out how the amount was calculated. Good luck!
