Guardianship?

My daugther-in-law in going to have a baby in January. She had four other children taken away from her, by CPS and put up for adoption in 2004 . I would like to take custody of this child before CPS. Is there any way I can get guardianship?

Your course of action would depend upon the circumstances at the time the child is born. If the child is not picked up at birth by CPS, she could petition the court to appoint you as the child's guardian. If the child is picked up by CPS then she should ask that the child be placed with you. You will have to agree to take the child and be willing to adopt the child. Placement of the child with a family member is preferred to adoption by a stranger.
