Legal Question in Family Law in California

Guardianship

My mom passed away and left me with my sister who is 16 years old. I cannot support both of us. Do I have to take legal guardianship of her when her dad is still alive, wealthy and living only minutes away?

Re: Guardianship

You cannot be forced to take guardianship of your sister. However if the only reason for not taking your sister is money, your should ask dad for financial help. If he refuses that request then contact the local welfare department for financial help.
