Legal Question in Family Law in California

What would happen if we broke up?

Don't know if this is the correct area of law for this question.

Was wondering, My fiance' and I are preparing for marriage. My fiance' moved out of her relatives place, my fiance and her roomate couldn't get a place because of their bad credit. I stepped in, me and my fiance rented an apartment, its in both our names. They needed a refrigerator, so I signed for the refrigerator, its in my name. So, they pay for both the apartment and the refrigerator but my name is on both of them. I'll admit I am concerned about having my name on the contracts when I'm not even living there. But, its out of love.

I am wondering though..... If worse comes to worse and we broke up before we even got married. What would happen? Out of spite, it's possible that she could purposely not make payments and make them count against me. Would I have any legal recourse? I know that missed payments would count against her too in the case of the apartment, but she has bad credit already. She doesn't care.

Re: What would happen if we broke up?

Your concerns are somewhat late. You would likely be stuck as per your note, if worse comes to worse. However, if having misgivings at this moment, why go through with it all. Something inside may be giving you a reasonable warning.
