Health coverage w/Tricare (retired military) after divorce

My parents are seperating after 46 yrs

of marriage. Father does not want to

get divorce although he has companion

because mother would lose health

coverage. Is this correct?

Generally speaking, a spouse cannot insure the ex-spouse after the divorce is final.

If he continues to claim she is his spouse, that might establish a common law marriage.

Your father can contact the military for their policy regarding insurance and ex-spouses.

Your parents need to talk to an attorney!

Medical insurance is available for a spouse. After the marriage is dissolved there is no spouse to insure.
