Legal Question in Family Law in California

Hello...child support from former spouse for 19 year old high school student is due to end this month..our son is a full-time student in his senior year of high school and for the record we live in california..layperson mentioned child support should continue for the remainder of his senior year ..divorce agreement, in simplest form, states child support ends at age 19, or is not a full-time high school student..i may have answered my own question however would like verification...and would it be feasible to request (with legal representation) an extension of child support for the remainder of the school year...thank you....roxane romalo

As a matter of law child support will absolutely stop at your child's 19th birthday or his date of graduation from high school, which ever occurs first. The court has no legal basis to extend it beyond the 19th birthday.

Mr. Schneider is correct. The court has no power to extend support past age 19 no matter what the child's school status. Support ends at 18+no longer a full time student OR 19 regardless of school, whichever comes first.
