Legal Question in Family Law in California
I hired a lawyer to hand my divorce and child custody case and I sign the service agreement than paid initial payment (deposit). Yesterday was my court appointment, before that he called me and asked me not show up to the court, I didnt ask him why. Since yesterday he is not responding my email or my phone, any professional advice?

Go to lasuperiorcourt.org under Family Law-Case Summaries and type in the case number to find out what happened in court. Then write back, you can either ask a question to all LawGuru volunteers or you can email me directly.
Mr. Stone does point out how to review your case online at the registry. Please be advised, however, that the information there is sometimes several days old, and is not immediately updated after a hearing.
I would give your lawyer a couple of days before you panic. Attorneys, regardless of whether they work for a firm or are solo practitioners get busy, and cannot return phone calls as soon as they come in.
The only reason that I can think that your lawyer asked you not to be there is that your lawyer did not want you called by opposing counsel to testify. This could have happened had you been present. This must be part of his or her strategy, but I would need more detail to explain it.
