Legal Question in Family Law in California

Home Improvements After DOS

DOS was April 2005, still going through divorce process. Home needed fixing up and I repainted the interior, installed new carpeting and new windows. These improvements were paid for with separate income earned after the date of separation. Am refinancing to buy out wife's share of home. Appraisal done which stated recent home improvements added $20,000 additional value to home if sold on the market. Am I entitled to reimbursement of the full $20,000, OR must I split this increase in value 50/50 with the wife, OR do I get my $10,000 back and then split the remaining $10,000 50/50? How does this work?

Re: Home Improvements After DOS

You would be entitled to reimbursement of the amount you paid. The total net proceeds would then be split.
