Legal Question in Family Law in California

Is a housewife entitled to anything?

I have been married 2 years. Husband bought a house before we married as a ''birthday gift'' for me. My name has never been put on the house. I have not worked outside the home at his request. Now we are divorcing and he has changed his tune. He says since I have not worked that I don't deserve any of the equity (about$20,000). Where do I stand?

Re: Is a housewife entitled to anything?

If you can prove that the house was a gift you could get it all. That would be difficult as your name is not on the deed. The community property interest in the house would be the increase is equity as the result of the use of community property to pay the mortgage, or improve the value of the the home. You may even be able to collect some the equity resulting from the increased vbalue of the the house.
