Legal Question in Family Law in California

How can my husband adopt my daughter?

I would like for my husband to adopt my daughter, but we don't have money for a lawyer. Her real father is in California, but does not pay child support. He sees her only 2 or 3 times a year when his aunt picks her up to see her. I don't know where he lives and the D.A. is having a hard time finding him. He is a deadbeat Dad. Is there a way to do the adoption without spending a lot of money that we don't have?

Re: How can my husband adopt my daughter?

Don't let the aunt give the child to him, make him come to you. When he appears have someone present, over 21, serve him with papers for the arrearage.

You can sue for back child support or abandonment, which would clear the way for your husband to adopt the child.
