Legal Question in Family Law in California
My husband and I are contemplating divorce and our financial situation is a mess, we may have to walkaway from our mortgage. I'm not really sure what would be best for me, foreclosure, bankruptcy, strategic default. Do we first see a real estate lawyer or a divorce lawyer. I suppose we need the services of a good accountant too, huh?
Who should I consult?

It just so happens that two of the three areas of law that I have focused on in my career have been real estate and family law (the third being construction and development law). I can't say if you need an accountant or not, without knowing the condition of your financial records. If you are interested in my services, I see a few ways I could assist you. I could consult with both you and your husband on the real estate issues and provide joint advice there. If I did that, I could not represent either of you in family law matters. I could, however, provide both of you family law mediation services if you wanted to work out an amicable divorce rather than pitting lawyers against each other. The other alternative would be me representing you. That would not preclude me from helping both of you work out your real estate issues, but I would only be looking out for your interests.
I would be happy to provide a free half-hour consultation to explore your options in more detail. I'm not sure if my office in downtown San Francisco, or the one in Walnut Creek is more convenient, but I would be happy to meet you in either location, or schedule a telephone consultation. Please call me if you would like to set something up.
