Legal Question in Family Law in California

My husband decided he didn't want to be married and moved out leaving me with the kids. He has refused to pay the rent which he has only been gone for seven days today, and refuses to pay the utility bills that were due. How can I protect myself, and can he just take our kids whenever he feels like it? I filed for legal seperation, and I need some advice. Thank You

You need to file a motion for a custody schedule and support in your legal separation case. I'm not sure why you chose legal separation either. It is exactly the same as divorce, except you cannot remarry. You have to do all the same legal work and get all the same orders.
