Legal Question in Family Law in California

My husband and i are getting a divorce. We purchased a car and i would like my name of it. He is willing to take over payments but cant get the car refinanced. what can be done?

You can get an order that he keep making the payments, and you can re-register the car in just his name for owner liability purposes, but you can't get off the loan without refinancing. Just because you get a divorce doesn't mean your creditors have to let either one of you of the hook for the debt. You can divide them between yourselves as to who pays what, but only a refinance in one of your names will get the other off the loan. That goes for all debts.
