Well, first you need to decide whether you think you can represent yourself, or if you need an attorney. If your husband has an attorney, you will very likely get run-over like a car hit by a train if you do not have one too. The Family Law departments try very hard not to be biased against self-represented parties, but it really is a burden on the court to have to try to protect and explain things to an unrepresented party, when the other side has an organized, prepared and knowledgeable attorney. So it just never turns out fair. If he does not have an attorney, I suggest you pick up a copy of How to Do Your Own Divorce In California, by Nolo Press. Look through it and decide if you think you can handle it yourself. If so, also contact the Family Law Facilitator in your county for help with organizing and filing your papers and scheduling things with the court. Best of Luck.
Mr. McCormick did recommend an excellent book, if you choose to represent yourself. I do agree with his initial advice, however, and suggest you get an attorney.
