Legal Question in Family Law in California

My husband has raised our son since he was 4 years old. Now that he is turning 18 my son wants to be adopted by his father. Having a name change is not enough for both. What are the procedures that we need to take to get this started? My son is graduating in June and it is very important that we have this done ASAP because he wants his diploma to have his fathers last name not the sperm doner as my son calls him. Not to mention that he has been patiently waiting for this almost all his life He turns 18 on Dec 12.

Go down and visit the Family Law Facilitator at your local Family Court. They will help you find the forms and fill them out as well as guiding you through local court procedure. Bear in mind, however, that if "the sperm donor" objects, you will probably need to hire an attorney to help with this.
