Legal Question in Family Law in California
My husband and I have been raising a family members son as our own from birth. We've never had anything filed with the courts as far guardianship or anything. He is now almost 16 years old and his biological parents want him back. We obviously dont want to give him back. Do we have any rights to keep him? Is there something we can file with the courts to prevent them from just showing up and taking him?

Not only is guardianship appropriate, but at age 16, the child is entitled to have counsel appointed to represent his interests and wishes. You should consult with a family law and probate specialists as soon as possible.
