Legal Question in Family Law in California

My husband is being sued for breach of contract. I had nothing to do with this issue & I only recently became aware of it. He also has incurred alot of credit card debt with cards that are in his name only. We live in CA. Am I responsible for his debts, even though I had nothing to do with them? How can I protect my assets? We own a home jointly, but I do have a seperate bank account. Thank you.

The name on the account doesn't matter. If debts or liability was accumulated during the marriage, it is community debt. Only assets that you could claim as legally seperate property in a divorce would be safe from creditors.
