Legal Question in Family Law in California

My husband and I are temporary legal guardians of a 14 year old girl. we would like to get 100% legal custody of her. Mother lives in Nevada and she has lived with her Father for 7 years until we got temporary custody. The girl does not want to be in either parents care. do we have a leg to stand on? And if so where do we go from here?

File a request for permanent guardianship. The girl has a right to express her desires concerning placement but ultimately, the court must decide what is in the child's best interests if the parties cannot agree.

Of course you can file for a guardianship. Usually, in guardianships, the courts, if contested or, if there this an issue of the fitness of one or both of the parents, the courts will appoint an attorney to represent the interests of the child. I would highly suggest that you have a qualified family law attorney who has a lot of experience in guardianships to help you with this matter. Good luck!
