Legal Question in Family Law in California

Can a husband and wife grant a specific power of attorney together? Or do we have to create two different power of attorney, separately for a given task that requires both of our approvals? The poa would allow grandparents abroad to record the children's adoption decision with the mother's country of origin -- a joint decision that requires both parents signatures.

There is no reason two people cannot grant their powers of attorney in one instrument, although it raises issues in the case of revocation, modification, etc. So it is a disfavored way to do it. In addition, with word-processing software and easy access to .pdf forms, I can't think of any advantage to a joint power of attorney. So you can do it in a joint document, but I don't know why you would.
