Legal Question in Family Law in California

My husband and his ex wife share 50/50 custody. There was never a visitation schedule ever drawn up but for the last 5 years they have agreed to a schedule. Now she wants to move to save money on gas and wants to cut my husbands visitation to way less than 50%. We have an apt. to see an attorney but we are thinking maybe mediation can solve all of this. Can someone give me information on how mediation works. The child is 8 years old and has told his mother several times that he does not want to change and he dosn't want to have to choose between mom and dad.

The procedure for mediation appears to vary depending upon the county in which the parties live. You should discuss this with the attorney you are meeting with to discuss this matter.
