Legal Question in Family Law in California

My husbands birth name is Connors, but is parents changed is name to OConnors (not legally). His birth certificate we found out was altered. His parents are deceased. Have to get original because we lost it for passport. Archives only have Connors. We are upset that he was never told this. What do we do now ? His SS#,DL# ; and our children are effected by this.

If he wants to change his name, for the purpose of legal documents, he can file a petition for a name change with the Superior Court.
