Legal Question in Family Law in California

two husbands, help!

Over three decades ago, I married my second husband in CA. My first husband moved to Colo. and told me he divorced me there. He made it sound very believable and I never thought much about it. I married my second husband and 2 years later I tried to find the divorce decree in CO., to see if there was anything in it about child support. I could find no record of a divorce. I started divorce proceedings on this first marriage and was divorced 6 mos later in CA. Am I legally married to my second husband? We have been together for 35 years. Thanks, LC

Re: two husbands, help!

You were married at the time of your second marriage. The second marriage is void. Disolving the first marriage does not validate the second marriage. You should contact the county clerk and inquire about a confidential marriage. It is my understanding that in such a marriage is conficential and the license is not available to the public.
