Legal Question in Family Law in California

My former husband's parents had taken out a small life insurance policy on him as a child. They were listed as beneficiries. When we married he changed the beneficiary to me. Forty some years later I receive a call that he has died and the beneficiary was never changed to his current wife. The insurance company tells me that California law states that the beneficiary is revoked unless stipulated in the divorce agreement. Is that correct?

The insurance company is reciting what the current law is, but it may be that the law at the time of the dissolution of your marriage was different and would require a different result. You need to consult with an attorney before the insurance company pays the benefit.
