Legal Question in Family Law in California

I am an illegal alien. I have been living in the states since I was 2 yrs old. Raised in CA. Now living in NC. Two years ago my my ex took my children back to CA without my permission regarding the children. I did still support them until recently when my ex decided to stop all contact. I have not seen my children in 2 yrs. My ex is on drugs never has had a job. What are the steps I should take in filing for sole custody of my children?

First, your legal status makes no difference. What does matter is your lack of contact for two years. If you want to reestablish your relationship with your child you will need to file where the child lives and preferably represented by an attorney who specializes in family law. Good luck!
