Legal Question in Family Law in California
Is is important to obtain an attorney in the county in which the dissolution of marriage is filed?

That depends vey much on the county and how hotly disputed the case will be. In most major metropolitan areas it doesn't matter at all. The courts are large and impersonal, there are many lawyers and no one knows everyone, and most lawyers practice in all the counties in the region. In smaller counties, however, the Family Law bar is close knit and the bench is made up of former lawyers from that group. Not to say that the judges show favoritism, but having a good rapport and reputation with the judges can still confer subliminal advantage. Generally, though, picking a good lawyer who you like and feel comfortable with is far more important than what county they have their office in.
I agree with Mr. McCormick. Keep in mind that if you retain an attorney outside the county where the case is filed, you will have to probably pay travel costs for that attorney to appear for you. Also I suggest that if you choose an out of county attorney, you make sure that the attorney is familiar with the local rules, which vary from county to county.
