Legal Question in Family Law in California

An Important Question About Subpoenas

I'm kind of in the middle of an on-going child custody battle. I have chosen to stay out of it, since it does not concern me. I made the mistake of telling a secret to my mother, who is one of the influences in this case. It was a secret about the other person in this case, who happens to be my boyfriend's mother. My mother told me yesterday (8/8/06) that the court has sent out a subpoena for me to show up to court tomorrow (8/10/06). Do they have a certain amount of time to deliver something like that on such short notice? (Is it legal?) I have not recieved the papers yet, but my main question is if I don't get the papers, do I still have to show up to court? The main problem is that this is to be against my boyfriend's mother, and my own mother told me that if I don't do this, she will never speak to me again. My boyfriend is threatening to break up with me. I don't want to lose him.....

Is there a way to wiggle out of this LEGALLY? The child in question is my boyfriend's little sister. I want to stay out of this completely. I don't want to go to court tomorrow and jeopardize my relationships with my mother and my boyfriend, as I love them both dearly. I hope this makes sense.

Thank you very much.

If you have not been served with a subpoena to appear in court, then you are not under court order to appear.

Good luck to you.
