Legal Question in Family Law in California

In-Family Adoption

I was 17 when I had my first child and I let my paretns adopt her. She lives with me and knows me as MOM however she is still ''legally'' my paretns. Its 10 years later and I would like to adopt her back if thats possible. But I don't have thousands of dollars to do so. Is there a way to adopt her back and if so can I do it myself or do I have to get an attorney? There is fighting on this matter and my parents agree to the adoption. Thank You

Re: In-Family Adoption

Yes you can readopt your child. However your parents would have to both consent to the adoption by you. The adoption petition in California is only 20.00 Because you are directly related to the child and the adoptive parents you would not have to pay for a homestudy. Attorney fees would probably be reasonable. you could have an attorney help you prepare the paperwork and get guidance for probably 500 to$1000.00. What city do you live in? Are you married? Single people can adopt but if you are married you need your spouses permission to adopt. email me and I will tell you where to get the forms you need.

You could hire an attorney or you can do it yourself. If you want to do it yourself you need to file a petition for adoption. You can purchase the necessary forms from the court clerk.
