I suggest that you start, either by retaining an attorney, or by looking at the website of the Los Angeles Superior Court. (If you are in a different county, check with the website for the county in which you live.) The website address is: www.lasuperiocourt.org.
On the website, there is a section for Family Law, with a Self Help link.
It is important to note that the court's website and self-help assistance does not give legal advice. It merely shows you which forms to file, when to appear in court, and other procedural matters.
If you want to do your divorce yourself, pick up a copy of "How to Do Your Own Divorce In California" by Nolo Press. Their website is Nolo.com, and their books are widely available in bookstores and online. Then contact the Family Law Facilitator in your county. They can be accessed through the superior court website for your county.
I agree with Mr. McCormick, as that book is an excellent reference. If you need forms, you can obtain forms for free at the California Court's website: http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/
