Legal Question in Family Law in California

Is Inheritance community property?

My marriage is kind of unstable. If I inherit money when my father passes away, will it be community property? If so, can I have my wife sign an agreement excluding a future inheritance from any claim by her, should we subsequently divorce? Kind of a post-nuptial agreement.

Re: Is Inheritance community property?

Inheritance is separate property and will remain separate property so long as it is maintained separate from community property. Also community property must not be used to maintain separate property
