Legal Question in Family Law in California

Inheritance after Divorce

My ex husband will be receiving an inheritance of property(house) and annuities from his parents who have now deceased.

We were married 19 years. Am I entitled to any of the inheretence? Our divorce papers did not address this issue. Do I have any options to obtain a portion of these assets? His parents have a home paid for, and he will be selling that home very soon. They also left annuities which he is not telling me much about. Possibly in the 6 digits..

I also want to note that he got our house in the divorce. I feel like I should be intitled to part of these assets. Mainly, because I paid my share of house payments for 19 years and he got the house. Please advice as to whether I have any rights in this matter. Help...

Re: Inheritance after Divorce

Gifts and inheritance are separate property when received. There are certain circumstances under which it can be converted to community property. If you were not represented by an attorney during the divorce you should contact an attorney now to find out if it is too late to revisit the issue of the property division.
