Legal Question in Family Law in California

Insurance for Children of Divorce

I divorced my wife in 2004 at which time I was unemployed. The court paperwork says that I should provide insurance for my kids if it's available at a mininal or no cost. Currently I provide it through my new wife but it's over $700/year. Is this minimal and do I have to be providing this since I'm still not employed with insurance myself? My income is approximately $30,000/yearly.

Re: Insurance for Children of Divorce

If you earn $30,000 a year you would be expected to provide insurance for your children if you can obtain it for $700/yr. If you weren't getting it through your wife's employer you would probably be eligible for healthy families or an HMO plan. In calculating guidelines support you should enter the cost of insurance that you are providing even though it comes out of your spouse's check.
