Legal Question in Family Law in California

My insurance paid for part of bill, now I have to pay half of what is left?

We incured an orthodintic bill for our son proir to the legal date of seperation. My dental insurance is taken out of my retirement(Navy) check prior to tax. Of a $4,000 bill, my insurance payed $1,500 after date of seperation. My X's lawyer says that I owe for half of what is not covered, $1,250 of the $2,500 balance. It doesn't seem right to me, is he correct?

In a generel sense, absent something to the contrary in your specific court orders, medical, dental and health related expenes for minor children that are not reimbursed by insurance are shared equally by the parents. This is part of both parents statutory obligation in California to support their children.

For a specific opinion regarding your individual circumstances, I suggest that you consult with an experienced family law lawyer. Experience is not expensive, it's priceless!
