Legal Question in Family Law in California

International Custody question

I am asking this question on behalf of a friend...He is a Brazilian and Swedish citizen and his ex-wife (Brazilian) married a US citizen and gained permanent residency in the US. My friend and his ex have a child together and that is the main issue here. The woman has sinced divorced the US citizen and has been moving from house to house (and man to man)for a period of about 6 months now. She is not working and providing for the child, but is dependent upon whatever man she is with. My friend would like to find out if there is anything he can do legally to get his child away from this woman (he has legal custody in Brazil) , even though he is not a US citizen and the child and the woman reside in the US. Thanks in advance.
