what are "jackson credits" in reguards to child support

They are credits granted to a non-custodial parent who is seeking determination of child support arrearages and who asserts and proves that they in fact had custody of the child. The principal behind the Jackson credits is based on the idea that a person who has actual custody of the child is supporting the child while the child is with them, just by having the child under their care. That principal is central to the whole child support scheme in California. Therefore Jackson says that if the parent was actually supporting the child by having custody, in spite of an order that shows custody to the other parent, the support arrearage calculations should give credit for the time that the non-custodial parent in the order was actually supporting the child by having custody.
