Legal Question in Family Law in California

Joint Bank Accounts

Mother's 1st husband died in 1977. In 1979, she moved in with a man friend. They lived together as man and wife but never married for various reasons. He passed away a few days ago. She has his power of attorney. He left no will. Can she move the funds into a single account? The three current accounts are owned jointly by them with about $89,000 total.

She is sole beneficiary of his life insurence policy.

Re: Joint Bank Accounts

The power of attorney died when he did. She may be able to do that with funds (depending on details you did not post), but since there is no will, before she does anything that could cause a problem, she would do well to make a lawyer's appointment and discuss everything that she may need to do. Call me if I can be of help.
