Legal Question in Family Law in California

Help to get joint bills out of my name

My ex huband and I agreed to split the common bills. How do I go about getting some of them in my name only and getting my name off of some of the others. He is wanting to file bankruptcy, but I don't want this to affect me as I am able to pay my portion of the bills and I don't want to ruin my credit. Please advise.

Thanks.

That can only be done with the permission of the creditors. If a creditor is aware of your husbands intention to file bankruptcy it will not agree to take your name off the debt.

You have to work this out with each of the creditors. A Family Court Judgment does not effect your contractual relationship with them.
