Legal Question in Family Law in California

joint custody, father still pays child support?

My friend currently has joint custody of his 6 year old daughter, and the mother of his child wants child support on top of that. What do you think the chances are that the judge will grant her this, even though he has his daughter 50% of the time?

Also, he is a self employed tattoo artist, everything is on a cash basis. He does not have any 1040's to prove income either. How would they determine the amount of support that would need to be paid, if any?

Re: joint custody, father still pays child support?

if he earns more than the mother, he will pay support. if the mother earns more, she will pay. he has to declare his income. if mother thinks he is lying, she can hire a vocational expert and try to impute more income on him.
