Legal Question in Family Law in California

I have joint legal custody of my son. Im the mother. Because Ive moved Ive misplaced my court ordered case documents but have the case number. Can I go online and check the status of my case? I cant go into the office because Im out of state and have no one I could ask to go pick them up. I need to look at them because my exhusband has done some illegal things that I could show proof of if I could only have proof of my rights as the other parent. Thank so much for your time and help.

Some counties, such as Alameda, have at least the past several years of court documents online, but not for family law cases. Due to privacy considerations, I do not know of any county that has family law case documents online. You may be able to find a "docket," which is a list of the documents in the file and other actions taken in the case, but not the documents themselves. If you need a copy of your order, you should call the Court Clerk's office in the county where the order was issued. With the case number and the exact title (which you may be able to look up on the docket), or at least a clear description of the document you want and the approximate date it was entered, they should either be able to accept an order over the phone for a copy of the document to be mailed to you, or give you instructions for how to submit an order for a copy by mail.
