Should a Judge Recuse Himself?

Should a judge ''recuse'' themselves if they ADMIT to having ex-parte communications with the opposing attorney? Also, is this a strong reason for an appeal?

The fact that the judge talked to opposing counsel would not in and of itself be grounds for an appeal. It would depend upon the content and purpose of the communications. Judges and attorneys talk to each other all the time.
