Legal Question in Family Law in California

I got a judgement for divorce settlement in 1991 (in California)but was never able to collect it as my husband went to work overseas. He is now back in the states (Georgia) - can I refile and collect?

It depends on what the divorce judgment was for. You may be able to enforce the existing judgment, or you may have to initiate something new. Without going over the details it is impossible to say. Generally, however, a judgment expires ten years after it is entered, unless it is renewed. Some aspects of divorce judgments, however, are not subject to that rule because the court retains continuing jurisdiction over the original action. You need to have the judgment and the details of what has happened since reviewed by a family law attorney. If you read my past answers, you will see that I point people with family law questions to self help options as often as possible. This is one that you will need at least some level of attorney assistance with. If you would like to consult with me, I have two meeting facilities in the Sacramento area.
