Legal Question in Family Law in California

Judgement Papers

My fiance did his divorce proceedings on his own-when we went to get a copy of his divorce decree, we found out he did not file the final judgement papers. He did so and he received a copy of the judgement back with the clerk court stamp & the judge's signature. We also went online and the status shows ''Judgement by Court 10/27/05'' instead of ''pending''. My questions are: is the divorce now final? The petition for divorce was served to the Respondant in Sept 2004, but the judgement papers were not filed until Oct 2005-what date does the 6 month/1 day waiting period starts? If the divorce is final, does he have to serve a copy of his papers to his ex-wife or did the court take care of that? Also, the papers that he received in the mail-can we use those to obtain a marriage license or do we have to return to the courthouse where the petition was first filed to get a copy?

Re: Judgement Papers

The judgment should state the date on which the marriage is dissolved.
