Legal Question in Family Law in California

Jurisdiction/change of venue

I was awarded temporary custody of my son due to his mother being incarcerated in Georgia. I have had to go back to Georgia numerous times to continue the child custody question which is still going on.

Is there any possibility that I could have the venue changed to California since the child and myself reside here and have resided here for more than six months??

What if anything can I do to keep from having to go back to Georgia once a month?

I wouldn't hold out great hope that you could move the proceedings to California. You should have your pleadings reviewed by an attorney because the question is complex. Good Luck, Pat McCrary

I think you will have a good chance of moving jurisdiction to CA.

Get a certified copy of the GA judgment and register it in CA. Then file motion seeking adjudication of jurisdictional issues and modification of visitation/custody. The longer the child has been here, the better.
