Legal Question in Family Law in California

I left my 17 yr marriage over two years ago now with only the shirt on my back because of abuse.I have resided at my mothers house since. Due to the heightened emotional abuse at the time of the split i failed my last semester in a Rn program and was forced to exit. The rn is the only way i had to support myself as i was a homemaker for most of my marriage. I work per diem as a psych tech now to survive while i am still going to pursue obtaining my rn which will now take three years longer to get.My temp supp is 150.00 a month but my alimony is 400.00 a month? I now have a new man in my life who is quite serious with me for 1 yr or so . We would like to live together and poss have a child together we want to maintain separate finances, and i do not want to give up my alimony as i consider it to be child support anyhow. My attorney has sent an offer of set payment of the same amount he pays now ....until my 11yr old son is 18 and my ex has turned it down? What can i do now?

You should be talking with your attorney. You and your attorney know the facts of your case, and many more facts than you have provided. The general rule is that spousal support stops upon remarriage. There is also a presumption that you need for spousal support will be reduced if you co-habitate with a member of the opposite sex.
