Legal Question in Family Law in California

Legal name change

Greetings!

I have recently found out that my husband whom I left over 6 months ago legally changed his name from William--name removed--to Aveon Cruz prior to meeting eachother. He has always operated under the name William--name removed--and I am not sure how to go about finding out whether our marriage was actually legal. If he never changed his name back to William--name removed-- I am under the impression the marriage is fraudulent. I would greatly appreciate some direction. Due to the violence and drugs in the relationship I know it is over, but it would be a great gift if I found out that the marriage was never legal. He is in jail on stalking and harrassment charges now and I would like to move quickly with gaining any information that could help.

Please contact me at the numbers referenced or via email.

Thank you.
