Legal Question in Family Law in California

Legal fees

In the event that I file for divorce and my wife contests the divorce, do I pay for her lawyer's fees as well or each pays for his/her own lawyer? Even if she does not contest the divorce, but wishes to get an attorney to settle property division issues, who pays for her attorney? I'm retired, she's working part time and in good financial position. Thanks for your help.

Re: Legal fees

The answer to your question would depend upon the amount of income and assets each party has. The court should order the payment of attorney fees to insure that each party has access to an attorney to represent them in the divorce action.
