Legal Question in Family Law in California
Legal Responsibility For Minors
Recently, my cousin found out that her 13 year old daughter is pregnant. And, she is too far along for there to be a simple solution. That isnt the problem though. She the 13 year old, Ashley, is, other than with sex, a very reliable and responsible kid, so she babysits for several of her moms (my cousin) friends. The friend she worked for most was Martha.
Here is the problem. After Martha gets home, especially on nights when she gets off after midnight and so Ashley is staying over, she is the responsible adult over all minors in her home...right? If so, her knowingly allowing a 13 year old girl sleep with a 17 year old boy is, if nothing else, child endangerment or neglect...right? And, even more so since theres been a confession saying that they waited until they knew for sure Ashley was too far along for any other, not-a-baby, options. And the WOMAN KNEW!!!
So, in light of all that, does my friend have any legal recourse? Its not like she wants anything from Martha more than an apology, but, since Martha has been hiding, no one can talk to her. So, as a last resort, if it is even possible, she would like to know what to do and how.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Teri

Re: Legal Responsibility For Minors
Discuss the matter with the police and request that she be charged with contributing to the delinquency of minor. Its will be difficult to convince law enforcement to take any action. I cannot think of any grounds for relief.
