Legal Question in Family Law in California
Legal separation and property division
My husband wants to separate. He says he wants to use a mediator and do things amicably. According to him, if we do this nicely he will ''let'' the kids and I stay in the house until summer. In exchange for his kindness, he wants me to sign off on our business. In the mean time, he is buying an new property(so he has somewhere to go)and when separation is filed, I will only be getting have of the equity in our home after sale. He will get the other half. If I don't want to do it his way, he says he will disolve the business i will get zip. He also mentioned, in lieu of spousal support, he would extend the length of time that he will allow me to stay in the house. I call BS... I think he wants me to be stupid. I am planning on seeing an attorney, but wanted some basic info first.
Thanks...

You are absolutely right. He cannot just disoolve the business in order to avoid paying you. You should keep the house if you can afford the payment. How long you have been married? Please contact me if you are in southern california.
