legally changing my minor childs name

i am custodial mother of my minor child who is 14 yrs old, i want to change his name, his biological father has no custodial rights and has never been ''involved'',however,pays child support thru a court order for the past 2+ yrs,

does the biological father have to be served or appear if I want to change my sons name???

To legally change his name you would have to file a petition with the court. His father would have to be served and could appear in court to oppose the name change.
