Legal Question in Family Law in California

Length of Spousal Support

I was married in California for 16 years. I was divorced in 1997. According to my divorce decree, my spousal support is up in January, 2005. I thought that in California, if you've been married for over ten years, that the spousal support continued until remarriage. My attorney calculated the support for half the term of the marriage. Can I have this re-looked at?

Re: Length of Spousal Support

You will need to have the specific wording of the judgment reviewed by an attorney. It is possible that the court's jurisdiction over spousal support can be extended. Good Luck, Pat McCrary

In a general sense, your support may be modifiable and extended.

For a specific opinion regarding your individual circumstances, I suggest that you consult with an experienced family law lawyer and have the underlying judgment reviewed along with your particular circumstances. Experience is not expensive, it's priceless!
